The city is also the oldest included municipality in South Florida. According to the United States Census Bureau, in 2010 the town had an estimated population of 99,919. It is the county seat of Palm Beach County, and is one of the primary cities in the South Florida metropolitan area, which has a population of 5,564,635. The area is referred to as the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Boynton Beach Metropolitan Division, which covers all of the Palm Beach County space. It is situated in the northernmost county of the South Florida metropolitan space.As of 2000, there were 34,769 households out of which 22.4% had kids beneath the age of 18 dwelling with them, 34.3% were married couples living together, 13.6% had a feminine householder and not using a husband present, and 47.5% had been non-families. 37.6% of all households have been made up of folks and 11.8% had anyone residing by myself who was once 65 years of age or older. The moderate family measurement was once 2.26 and the typical circle of relatives measurement was once 3.02.In the city, in 2000, 21.3% of the inhabitants is beneath the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 31.5% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.0% who had been 65 years of age or older.
